Adopting orangutans leads Kiwi woman to helping Borneo’s orphaned elephants

The Rotarian first meet the two elephants Jimbo and Tun Tan two years ago when she was representing the Rotary Action Group for Endangered Species.

Deb heads over to Borneo next week. Today there’s tragic news out of Borneo. On Friday 22nd July Poachers set fire to the wildlife sanctuary. 22 acres of forest have been lost to fire.The sooner i get out there and see what’s happening on the ground the better. Let’s hope we have lost no endangered animals to the fire or the poachers.

Hi John,

Very, very sad news.  Poachers have set the wildlife sanctuary on fire on Friday 22nd.  22 acres lost.  The wildlife team is going fire & rescue to put the fires out.
The sooner I get out there and see what’s happening on the ground the better.  Let’s hope we have lost no endangered animals to the fire or the poachers :
